It's getting cold outside, the frost is layering our windows, and we're all shopping for big coats... That means that winter (or the beginnings thereof) is upon us. So then, the perennial question is... What sports car do we drive?
I'm personally vouching for the Porsche 911 on this one. I myself don't yet have one, but if I did, it would be the first choice for winter stability, reliability, and performance. Rear engined, rear wheel drive traction, plus a 7 speed and a limited slip all covered up by a warm, sumptuous, luxurious, clean and useable interior?
Sounds like a recipe for goodness to me.
What about you? What car would you choose, and why?

Nissan GT-R because ATTESA.
And it's pretty batshit insane in its own right.

I would drive an E30 BMW with proper snow tires (maybe studs even if I'm feeling fiesty).
What car are you driving now?

I can vouch for how much fun this is.

ATTESA is such a pretty name for an AWD system, IMO.

Nissan GT-R, primarily because I want a Nissan GT-R. Also, it's halfway practical (I've sat in the back of one and legroom was better than it looks, because actually the rear seat is quite long... it was headroom that was marginal at best), so I could still do Christmas shopping with it.

Either a Carrera 4S or an R8 V10. Or maybe a Continental GT if that counts as a sports car.

I'm taking the bus. I live in a large city, which makes a car redundant, inconvenient, and a needless expense.

Bring it. Fucking. On.
I don't need your nimby pimpy awd, fixed-roof, fuel-injected wimpiness. I want a car that's light, agile and mounted on skinny tires to slice through snow. I'll shovel the snow out of my driver seat each morning and drive everywhere in ski goggles and my insulated hunting getup. Yeah I'll be cold, my hair will suck and I won't have any creature comforts, but god dammit I'll be a man and I'll be laughing at the soft R8's and 911's you call sports cars.
*Disclaimer: I kid. R8's are ballin, but srsly, it would be fun to drive in the winter.

and then everyone will jump on you about how an E30 is not a sports car. ;)

A car is not a needless expense. Are you in the market for one?
![]() 11/03/2014 at 16:32 |

I want to buy another Z32 or an older 911 within the next year. I was in the market a couple months ago before a business venture fell through.
But as for right now, it is needless, because I live in a city of 5 million with heavy traffic and a metro pass only costs $135 vs. a minimum $600 for a car and insurance, before the cost of gas.

My own god damn BRZ.. sits in the garage 7 months out of the year because of road conditions.. this is actually due to ground clearance, not tires. snows can do wonders, but they can not solve interference issues between the car and the road
